Build and Sustain Your Employment Brand

One of the best ways to reach success in your business is to know what tools you have at your disposal and know how to use them well. An important tool which needs to be sharpened is employment brand, this is an intangible but integral part of a business. The employment brand is the ethos of your business that tells people who you are and what you value, it allows potential new employees to see what you’re all about and whether or not they want to be a part of it.

Here at MunaHR, we believe there are 5 initial ways to build and sustain your employment brand and we are going to walk you through them now.

Firstly, there is your website. More often than not your website is the most accessible place with the most information about your business. Unlike social media which can be changeful and has “bite-sized” pieces of information, your website provides you with an opportunity to put everything someone needs to know about your business front and centre.

We recommend you have a section on your website dedicated to Careers/Join Our Team, so it is easy for someone to find what they are looking for. On this page, you should talk about:

  • Your Values and Beliefs
  • Share your Culture (via words and images)
  • Profile Your Leaders and Team Members
  • Talk about how you grow your Team.

Secondly, there are social media platforms. Unlike a website, social media should be updated daily. It gives you an opportunity to display what the day-to-day looks like in your business. We recommend you use social media to tell the story of what it's like to be part of your business and show your brand and culture to your online audience.

The best messages to use social media for are:

  • Sharing Team Profiles
  • Sharing success stories
  • Communicating your culture
  • Highlight how you invest in your team's growth.

Thirdly, utilise the community you have built up around you. Use email and other forms of communication to let your customers know about your employment brand so they can join your team or tell others about the employment opportunities. Your customer base is a great source of rereferrals when it comes to new employees. So, keep them informed about what's coming up and ensure that they have a deep understanding of your employment brand. Your future employees may be friends, family, or workmates of your loyal customers.

Fourthly, there is the old reliable online advertisements. Although these advertisements can often be discouraging, they are still an opportunity to attract talented people to your business as well as further cement your employment brand. When creating your online ads, it's important that you know WHO you're targeting and that your ad stands out to them. Bear in mind that potential candidates are attracted to the opportunities you provide not jobs.

Fifthly, there is the less used but no less effective mode of using profiles, articles and publications. If the opportunity presents itself, we would highly recommend that you use a profile or article to talk about your business and spotlight your employment brand. Highlight to potential future employees what your culture and values are and how you grow your people.

If you take nothing else away from today’s blog, remember this; employment brand is the key to attracting great people to your business. It emphasises your commitment to your team as well as encouraging the best kind of candidates to apply, those who are motivated and want to be a part of something that thrives.
